“Over” is a single by Scottish synthpop band CHVRCHES released on February 24, 2023. It is their first release of new material since the deluxe edition of their fourth album Screen Violence in 2021 after having taken a musical hiatus to focus on touring during 2022. It also marks their first release after spending nearly a decade with Glassnote and signing to Island Records and EMI Records. The band revealed on Twitter that they finished the song over the holidays and that it is about “trying to exist in an escapist dreamscape when life is difficult”.

In an interview with Consequence, singer Lauren Mayberry explained the band’s decision to release a standalone single instead of a full album: "For me, I’m trying to think of 'Over' as a little miniature era, between the Screen Violence era and whatever the next one ends up being. Normally, we’ll sit and gather songs for months and years and then make a full record. We don’t really tend to do standalone releases, but because we haven’t started working on the next one yet and the song was ready to go, we were like, 'Wait a minute, we could just release this.' And in a way, that feels quite freeing to not have to abide by the regular rules that we set ourselves. So yes, it’s kind of a little miniature chapter."

The band wrote and co-produced the song with Oscar Holter who is best known as one of the writers and producers of The Weeknd's "Blinding Lights".
