"Universal Mind Control" by Common was by Common was fully released on the 9th December of 2008. The Album was promoted online and mostly with iTunes Singles/EPs, notable was the Announcement-EP that featured the S/T-Track "Universal Mind Control UMC" and "Announcement" both featuring Musician "Pharrell Willams". The EP was a moderate sucess and sold well at the iTunes Shop. Music Videos for both songs were made after.

The production of this album was mostly done by the great duo "The Neptunes" consisting of Chad Hugo and Pharrell Willams and Mr.DJ. All songs were written by Common.

"Universal Mind Control" sold 81,663 copies (only in US - total probably around 90k/100k) in it's first week and debuted at #12 in The Billboard 200 Charts staying there for 13 Weeks, it was the first album since "Electric Circus" that didn't debuted at #1 (Finding Forever) or #2 (Be) even tho it debuted at #4 in the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Album Charts and even hit #1 at the US Top Rap Albums Charts.
The highest charting (TOTAL WORLDWIDE) single of the album was "Universal Mind Control" with Pharrell Williams that debuted at #62 and stayed there for 6 weeks. Even tho many songs still debuted in other Charts like Announcement (HOT R&B/HIP-HOP CHARTS : #94 / 3 weeks).

The album wasn't as liked by critics like his other albums that came before (Be, Like Water For Chocolate). Many not liking the club sound and lyrics of the album.

It was the last album released under G.O.O.D Music, the label by Kanye West.
