“Love Is” is Common’s view on how love was seen in the hood as a young child and through adulthood. it really shows how showing love towards one another was not all that encouraged, nor was it common. However, as written in the song, even the hardest thug around can show emotion, and how that love is all there deep down.
This song samples Marvin Gaye’s song “God Is Love”, from his 1971 album What’s Going On.
