So Close to What is the third studio album by the Canadian singer Tate McRae released on February 21, 2025, through RCA Records
On November 14, 2024, McRae announced the release of her third studio album through social media. According to a press release, So Close to What is set to capture “the journey of growing up when the road ahead feels infinite”. So Close to What offers an “introspective exploration of self-discovery, love, and searching for balance” in uncertain times.
The album suffered an unexpected leak a month before its release, forcing the Canadian to make slight changes to the project's tracklist, removing «Call my bluff» and «Better than I was» from the tracklist and adding other songs including a collaboration with American rapper Flo Milli. Following the album's release, Tate made an additional digital version of the album available for purchase where the removed songs were re-incorporated into the tracklist alongside the new ones.
It was produced by Ilya, Savan, Lostboy, Emile Haynie, with Ryan Tedder being the executive producer. It has been preceded by the release of the lead single «It's ok I'm ok» produced by Ilya on September 12, 2024, followed by «2 hands» produced by Lostboy and Ryan Tedder on November 14. A third promotional single is available for pre-order starting January 12, 2025 «sports car» and was released on January 24.
A final single was released alongside the album on February 21st, «Revolving door». All singles were accompanied by their respective music video.
The artist's third album since its release managed to position itself on the main music platforms' charts and has been praised by critics and even compared to 2000’s pop artists such as Britney Spears and The Pussycat Dolls.
